"Pain is the gift that nobody wants, but pain is creative"- T.T. Cloete
When I heard the poet speak these words, my heart was set alight. How dare he? How dare he understand me so well, with such sheer simplicity. It was in that moment, in the dark crowded auditorium that the man in the wheelchair changed the way I lived with my pain.
I realised that this pain is the shadow that I cannot outrun. But it is not only merely something that follows my every step- it is me. My pain has made me the person I am today. When used right, pain bleeds creativity. It bleeds poetry.
